Here are Residents' Comments about Changing the Name of Jalan Srikaya to H Mahbub Djunaedi

As reported earlier, Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan changed 22 names of streets in Jakarta on June 17, 2022. Of that streets, nine are in Central Jakarta. One of them is Jalan H Mahbud Djunaidi, previously known as Jalan Srikaya, in Kebon Sirih area, Menteng.

It doesn't matter if the name is changed

Regarding the change in street name, several residents interviewed by Beritajakarta.id on Tuesday (6/28), expressed their agreement and support for the Governor's decision. One of them is Anjas (43), a resident of Jagakarsa, South Jakarta who works in Kebon Sirih area who stated that the change of street name is not only a form of respect for figures and heroes from Betawi but also can make the younger generation more familiar with the history of Jakarta.

"Usually, streets or buildings have historical value. It doesn't matter if the name is changed," he expressed.

The same statement also came out from Siti Sulaikha (38), a resident from Kebon Melati, Tanah Abang. He admitted the inclusion of the names of figures and heroes for street names in Jakarta prompted his curiosity about the figures for whom the street names were.

The name Mahbub Djunaedi for instance. She previously did not know this character before. But now she knows that H Mahbub Djuanedi is a senior journalist and writer from Betawi whose writings have inspired many people.

"I was curious to finally find information in the media about who this character was. So, I know now, even though it's not very deep," she concluded.
