Jakarta - Cikini Library Prepares to Open to Public

After closing its door for two years and revitalization, the Jakarta - Cikini Library located on Jalan Cikini Raya, Menteng, Central Jakarta has announced to reopen to the public on July 8, 2022.

The services provided facilitate all segments from early childhood, children, adults, elderly, and disabled

Jakarta Library and Archives Agency (Dispusi) Head Wahyu Haryadi said the revitalization has shown progress of more than 95 percent and will be inaugurated tomorrow.

"This is just finishing such as preparing book collections, tidying up the infrastructure and facilities inside," he expressed, Wednesday (7/6).

He explained that the library is open from 9 AM to 5 PM with 300 visitors capacity. There are 138,000 book collections on the 4th floor and 70,000 books where 70,000 of which can be borrowed by visitors.

Those book collections included books on astronomy, art, literature, culture, ke-Jakarta-an, fiction, and non-fiction books.

"Visitors can't borrow reference books and printed works of record. This is following the implementation and mandate of Law 13/2018 on the Handover of Savings for Printed and Recorded Works," he explained.

Therefore, residents who want to visit the library must register online through perpustakaan.jakarta.co.id. Afterward, they will get a QR code to be scanned upon arrival at the library location.

“In today's era, everything is digital to make things easier. So, we better register from home. Then scan the QR code and enter. Meanwhile, the library capacity is limited to 300 people," he stated.

According to him, the library is now more modern and adequate in terms of appearance or design and the facilities provided, which aims to create a sense of comfort for visitors. It is also child and disability friendly.

Thereby, he hoped that the enthusiasm of the people who came could be higher and encourage reading interest
