TOD Forum, Jakarta Continues to Prioritize Transit-Oriented Concepts in Building Jakarta

Jakarta Vice Governor Ahmad Riza Patria became the Opening Keynote Speaker at the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Forum as part of the 2022 MRT Jakarta TOD Fair event, at the Menara Mandiri Assembly Hall on the 9th Floor, Central Jakarta, on Friday (7/8).

He revealed that the forum could be an opportunity to show the public that Jakarta is growing as a transit-oriented city, prioritizing the use of public transportation for citizen mobility, and is ready to be on par with other developed cities in the world.

"TOD is very important for the development of the city of Jakarta in the future. That's why this forum will be useful in enriching ideas about the important role of TOD for Jakarta. Today, we emphasize that TOD is a concept that we will continue to prioritize in developing the city of Jakarta. Its development can make a positive contribution to the community, as well as the Jakarta administration," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release.

He went on to say that the community would certainly be very supportive, as the TOD concept is an effort to serve the people of Jakarta to easily mobilize from one place to another. They would be more inclusive, as they are interconnected in public spaces.

"In the perspective of the provincial government, this concept is certainly very positive, one of which can be a boost to regional income. It will have an impact on optimizing assets that have not been used properly so far. And this is an important point in increasing the potential of regional revenue sources other than tax revenue," he continued.

It would also provide a multiplier effect for the local economy, where the new money space will become business confident and a good investment opportunity. Thereby, this concept is a good solution to Jakarta's challenges which has been 'beautifying itself'.

"We also continue to strive to improve the quality of life by providing spaces that can support the daily needs of passengers, pedestrians, workers, residents, and visitors through roads, plazas, and open spaces that can make a positive contribution to the identity and character of the TOD area," he explained.

He explained that it would be realized if accompanied by the development of affordable housing in the TOD area, as it would encourage the creation of a new culture, namely the culture of walking, the culture of transit, and the culture of opening knots in society.

At the same time, he appreciated the forum which has become a forum for discussions about sustainable regional development. His appreciation was also conveyed to the people who attended and the speakers at the forum, who had filled the discussion spaces with the spirit of building a sustainable Jakarta. Considering this event was in line with the vision of 'Jakarta Sustainable City' and very relevant to the slogan 'Jakarta City of Collaboration'.
