Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan revealed that the number of slaughtering Qurbani animals in Jakarta has increased significantly.
The number jumped to 58,000 compared to the usual around 42,000 to 47,000
It was because people believed that the process of slaughtering Qurbani animals carried out in Jakarta was more systematic and hygienic.
“The number jumped to 58,000 compared to the usual around 42,000 to 47,000," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta PPID's press release, Sunday (7/10).
Performing Qurban at His Residence, Governor Invites All to Keep the Tradition"The 58,000 are because animals from outside the area are brought to Jakarta considering there is a systematic monitoring process, so residents outside Jakarta choose to buy in Jakarta. That indicates that they trust the checking system here," he explained.
He continued that monitoring during the food and mouth disease (FMD) was a decisive factor in the reason why people chose to sacrifice and get qurban meat from Jakarta.
"The reason is why there is a surge, besides increasing demand, there is also trust in Jakarta for the monitoring of Qurbani animals during the FMD period. We are confident and we know the exact monitor. Even, residents outside Jakarta tend to buy animals in Jakarta because of a trusted process," he added.
Another interesting thing, most chose goats and sheep for qurban, instead of cows.
"Even, the number of goat and sheep for qurban has increased very significantly. This is a sign that the community's economy is getting better," he added.
"That's a positive sign. We are grateful that more people are ready to sacrifice," he said.
