Rubella measles vaccine can be injected the day after recovering from Covid-19

The Jakarta Health Agency (Dinkes) has announced that children recovering from Covid-19 can receive the rubella measles vaccine, even one day after testing negative.

Epidemiological Surveillance and Immunization Division Head Ngabila Salama said there was no distance from another vaccine brand for children who would be vaccinated against rubella measles. The vaccine can even be given directly at once (4-5 different vaccine brands at one time).

"Rubella measles vaccine can be injected the day after recovering from Covid-19. Make sure the child is healthy at the time of injection and not yet 5th years old ," she expressed, Monday (8/15).

She explained that children who are suffering from coughs and colds can also receive vaccines in the National Child Immunization Month (BIAN) activity. But, the vaccine should be postponed if the child has a fever with a temperature of more than 38 degrees.

"The rubella measles vaccine is safe, healthy, useful, and of good quality," he stated.

As for the information, the government made a priority program to provide free vaccines as rubella measles is very dangerous for children's health.

Simultaneously, some 34 provinces have been intensifying a measles-rubella immunization campaign in August 2022 to create herd immunity for children.

BIAN is an effort to prevent the occurrence of severe diseases that can be prevented by Immunization (KLB PD3I) and due to a decrease in routine immunization coverage for children during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Jakarta, in implementing the immunization, has targeted children aged 9 to 59 months with additional measles and rubella immunization regardless of immunization status.

In addition, the immunization pursues those who have not completed the oral polio immunization four times, the polio injection once, and the DPT-Hb-Hib (pentabio) three times.

"BIAN can prevent illness and disability due to measles, rubella, polio, diphtheria, pertussis (batu rejan), hepatitis B, pneumonia, and meningitis (inflammation of the lining of the brain)," he stated.
