Governor Frees PBB Under Rp 2 Billion, Fahira Idris: This is a Gift on Independence Day

Regional Representatives Council (DPD) Speaker from the Jakarta constituency, Fahira Idris assessed that the progress of development in Jakarta is increasingly being felt, including in social justice. It was following the highest ideals of the founding fathers of the nation which should be felt as the republic ages.

This is a special gift on independence day

In every momentum of the Independence Day celebration, he stated, it was appropriate for the people to feel the pulses of development progress.

As for the information, after exempting the land and building tax (PBB) for teachers, lecturers, education staff, veterans, pioneers of independence, recipients of the title of national hero, retired national army/police, and retired civil servants, as well as 60 meters of land and 36 meters of buildings, right on independence day, the Jakarta Governor freed the PBB for houses with a taxable value of the property (NJOP) below Rp 2 billion.

Governor: Jakarta Residents Get PBB Relief through Fair and Equitable Policy

"In Jakarta, social justice as the highest ideals of the founding fathers is realized by changing the paradigm that one of the pillars of development, namely taxes is not solely intended to increase local income but is used as an instrument to bring social justice to residents by freeing PBB for the poor. This is a special gift on independence day," he expressed in his written statement, Friday (8/19).

For a nation as big as Indonesia, bringing social justice is not an easy matter but an eternal job. But, it does not mean an impossibility.

"Leaders with all the power that the people have given them have many instruments to bring social justice to their people. These instruments must be used to facilitate people's lives, especially those who have economic limitations," he added.

According to him, social justice is present and felt by the people when the power of a leader in making policies is based on the problems faced by the people every day. In Jakarta, the rising land prices had made it difficult for residents to pay the PBB, thus they had to sell their assets and move to other areas, especially outside Jakarta.

"Whereas, the land and the house are their pride. But, it makes us more touched that the houses belong to the heroes of the nation or those who serve this nation," he continued.

He added that bringing social justice is the duty of a leader and that is the main purpose why the leader has power from the people and the constitution.

"Can you imagine if other areas throughout Indonesia also implement the free PBB policy like in Jakarta, surely it will create a sense of social justice for the people," he stated.
