City Public Transport Fare Cut Rp 500

Jakarta Organization of Land Transportation Owners (Organda) back to lower public transport tariff in Jakarta Rp 500 following a decline in the price of fuel (BBM).

So the new tariff will take effect the day after tomorrow if the governor had signed his decree

Jakarta DPD Organda Head, Shafruhan Sinungan said, his side agreed the public transport tariff cut by Rp 500 after held a meeting with Jakarta Transportation Department (Dishub).

"The tariff reduction proposal letter will be submitted to the governor tomorrow. So the new tariff will take effect the day after tomorrow if the governor had signed his decree," said Sinungan, Monday (1/19).

Basuki: We Have to Force People Using Public Transport

He said the proposed tariff reductions amounting to Rp 500 is considering the fuel component in the calculation of 17-20 percent tariff. In calculation, the rates only cut Rp 200, then fitted to Rp 500.

The proposed tariff reductions for medium buses (AC) are from Rp 7,500 to Rp 7,000, large buses (AC) from Rp 9,500 to Rp 9,000, and small buses from Rp 4,000 to Rp 3,500. But Kopaja, Metromini, and Mayasari Bakti non AC have no tariff reduction, the tariff still Rp 4,000. The decision based on the all three capability. "Now, they have difficulty in previous tariff, if we cut the tariff again, maybe they can stop to operate," he added.

Taxi fare is still the same since it has two options, upper and lower fares. Lower taxi fare for first door open is Rp 7,500 and Rp 4,000 for the next kilometer. The upper fare is start at Rp 8,000 and Rp 4,500 for the next kilometer. "If there is significant fuel price cut, taxi is still able to use lower fare," he continued.

These rates will valid for the next three months. "The fuel price is likely to be volatile following the global oil prices. But we also cannot change the tariff every two weeks or one month. Therefore, we will evaluate every 3 months to determine whether fuel prices would be raised, lowered, or fixed," he said.
