Sunter Lake to Hold Governor's Cup Water Ski and Wakeboard Championships in December 2022

The Provincial Board of the All-Indonesian Water Ski and Wakeboard Association (Pengprov PSAWI) Jakarta will hold the Governor's Cup Water Ski and Wakeboard Championship from December 5 to 9, 2022 at Danau Sunter (Sunter Lake), North Jakarta.

There are suggestions and inputs to invite foreign athletes as well

PSAWI Jakarta Chairman, Irvansyah said that this Governor's Cup is held in the context of coaching and improving athlete achievement.

"We want to see the performance of the Jakarta Pelatda athletes and the public's interest in aquatic sports. This championship is also to find talented young athletes," he expressed, Sunday (9/18).

Besides that, Sunter Lake water would also be sterilized to avoid bacteria.

"If the water is clean, it can attract more people to engage in water skiing and travel on Sunter Lake," he explained.

"To accommodate the aspirations of athletes under PSAWI Jakarta, we have confirmed Lusiana Dian Arsyanti, ST as Chair of the Jakarta Water Ski and Wakeboard Athletes Committee," he explained.

PSAWI Jakarta Pengprov II Vice Chairman, Ahmad Yani added that this championship would be followed by dozens of athletes from various regions. It was also held to see the athlete's ability ahead of the PON XXI which will be held in Aceh and North Sumatra.

"By doing so, we can see where the athletes lack and immediately evaluate or improve," he explained.

Moreover, it could also be an event to promote water tourism destinations in North Jakarta considering that Sunter Lake is included as a tourist destination in Jakarta.

"There are suggestions and inputs to invite foreign athletes as well. It can help the Jakarta administration in socializing water tourism destinations in Jakarta," he stated.
