Seribu Islands Culinary Festival Runs Lively

The Seribu Islands administration is holding the 2022 Seribu Islands Culinary Festival in five residential islands, which aims to commemorate the Seribu Islands' 21st Anniversary. There are 120 participants from six urban villages in Seribu Islands.

This event raises the potential of the Seribu Islands from its culinary arts

Seribu Islands Regent, Junaedi said the culinary festival event was very good for tourism in Seribu Islands. Besides being a promotional event, the event is also an effort to explore the local potential to attract tourists.

"This event raises the potential of the Seribu Islands from its culinary arts. I'm optimistic that a competition like this will promote island tourism," he expressed, Monday (11/7).

According to him, the culinary specialties of each island have their charm for tourists to come. Therefore, he hoped that the same event could be held once a year.

"Hope it can be held every three months. We'll fight it at DPRD to support," he asserted.

Seribu Islands Tourism and Creative Economy Sub-agency (Parekraf) Head, Puji Astuti explained the event opening is conducted on Untung Island with 60 participants. As for the rest 60 others, where 15 people participate in the event on Pari Island, Tidung Island, Kelapa Island, and Harapan Island at the same time.

The participants were asked to make a traditional culinary menu of kuah ikan pindang (fish yellow-broth dressing) with each variation according to the characteristics of the island.

She added that the menu selection in the competition took into account that fish was the main marine resource and it was easy to find raw materials in Seribu Islands. The winners will receive a cash prize of Rp 7.8 million, Rp 6.7 million for the second winner, and Rp 5.6 million for the third winner.

"Besides promoting tourism, it also improves the community's economy," he stated.
