Acting Governor: Food Stock in Jakarta is Safe

Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono stated, the supply and demand for strategic food from December 2022 to January 2023 are safe.

Food stocks in Jakarta are in stable condition

"Based on the report of the Economy and Finance Assistant and PT Food Station Tjipinang Jaya, food stocks in Jakarta are in stable condition," he said after leading the meeting on the High-Level Meeting (HLM) of the Jakarta Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) in Pola Room, Block G Floor 2, City Hall Building, Tuesday (12/20).

Acting Governor will Directly Monitor New Year's Eve in Jakarta

In facing Christmas and New Year, the Jakarta administration continues to improve synergies to maintain food security. He also ensures that the supply of quality food needed by Jakarta people is stable and food prices are still affordable.

He explained that there are currently some basic commodities that are experiencing price increases, such as eggs, rice, and flour.

"But the increase is not significant," he asserted.

Economics and Finance Assistant, Sri Haryati added that the price hike on staples ahead of Christmas and New Year was triggered by high demand. The highest hike was in eggs and flour which reached 12 percent. However, BUMD continues to try to suppress it.

"Another effort is to hold a bazaar. Food Station also regularly reaches out to the urban villages. We also have another step is to distribute broiler eggs to subsidized food activities for certain communities for Rp 10,000 per kilogram," she stated.

She went on to say that the Regional Inflation Control Team (TPID) carried out direct monitoring in the field to check prices, availability, production, and distribution of food needs. They also cooperate with local governments that have a surplus of food commodities in order to maintain price stability and availability.

"We also innovate in maintaining the availability of food ingredients through various activities. For instance, community self-help through the movement to plant food crops and the movement to save energy and food. Then Coordinate and communicate intensively and quickly with various stakeholders through the use of technology and information to provide regular and tiered reports," she continued.

She added that the price increase had an impact on inflation in Jakarta. In November 2022, Jakarta's inflation rate was lower than the national average of 4.11% year of year (YoY), 0.36% lower than last month's yoy inflation which was recorded at 4.47%.

The commodities with the highest share in triggering annual inflation this time were gasoline commodities as much as 1.045%, household fuels 0.293%, and air transportation as much as 0.264%.

"Jakarta experienced mild inflation in November 2022 by 0.05% every month (mtm). As of November 2022 year to date, Jakarta's inflation reached 3.64% and year on year Jakarta's inflation reached 4.11%," she concluded.

As for the information, the Jakarta administration together with TPID and Food Security Task Force, as well as other stakeholders have made various efforts to control inflation, as well as anticipate the 2022 Christmas and New Year celebrations, as follows:

- Carry out a prognosis of food availability and needs. Currently, the prognosis for strategic food availability and needs for December 2022 - January 2023 is at a fairly safe level

- Commodities that experience price increases between months before Christmas and New Year are chicken eggs due to rising prices for animal feed and increased demand due to National Religious Holidays and the use of eggs as routine social assistance and natural disaster assistance. Efforts have been made to distribute purebred chicken eggs in subsidized food activities for certain communities for Rp. 10,000/kg

- Rice type Medium IR III has been increasing since October 2022 due to an increase in the price of dry milled unhusked rice (GKG) at the mill level due to rising costs of rice production (fertilizer, seeds, medicines) and limited supply, as the rice harvest season has not yet entered. PT The Tjipinang Jaya Food Station in collaboration with Bulog Divre Jakarta Banten has distributed Medium KPSH Rice since October 2022 and is planned to continue until February 2023. It also distributes premium types of rice in subsidized food activities for certain communities.

- Carry out direct monitoring in the field to check prices, availability, production, and distribution of food needs

- Collaborate with Regional Governments that have a surplus of food commodities in order to maintain price stability and availability in the regions, namely B2B and G2G

- Conduct low-cost markets, low-cost bazaars or Availability of Supply and Price Stabilization (KPSH) activities

- Involve various relevant stakeholders such as the police, prosecutors, National Army (TNI), BPKP, and PKK Mobilization Team in carrying out efforts to control inflation in the regions

- Carry out innovations in maintaining the availability of food in the regions through various activities such as community self-help movements for planting food crops, and energy and food saving movements

- Coordinate and communicate intensively and quickly with various stakeholders through the use of technology and information, for example creating a WhatsApp group to provide regular, tiered, and tiered reports

- Maintain people's purchasing power by continuing various social safety net programs in 2023 such as:

- Jakarta Smart Card (KJP) Plus

- Jakarta Excellent Student Card (KJMU)

- Jakarta Elderly Card (KLJ)

- Jakarta Child Card (KAJ)

- Jakarta Disabled Card (KPDJ)

- Adolescent Care Card (KPAR)
