City Prepares 1,000 Carts for Street Vendors at Temporary Settlement

Jakarta Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperatives Department (KUMKMP) claimed not to renew the street vendor's (PKL) permission to sell in temporary location (loksem). As the replacement, the street vendors will be moved to traditional market near the temporary location and will be given 1000 carts and 230 display windows.

We will give 1,000 carts for the street vendors who ready to sell inside the market

Jakarta Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperatives Department Head, Joko Kundaryo said, this policy is taken because many locations violate the rules as stands on canal, social facility (fasos), and public facility (fasum).

"We will collect the data from five areas to match the location with correct spatial planning, is there any place that violates the rule? Basically, we will not renew the permit," he told, Friday (2/20).

South Jakarta Administration to Close 5 PKL Temporary Settlement

Kundaryo uttered, although the permission has expired since 2012, the street vendors are still allowed to sell because the locations are still not removed. Currently, around 100 of 7,918 temporary locations in Jakarta have been removed and relocated to the market.

Based on temporary data, Kundaryo continued, there are about 7,583 street vendors who sell at the location.

"We will give 1,000 carts for the street vendors who ready to sell inside the market. This amount is bigger than 200 carts in the last years that acquired from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)," he explained.

Kundaryo revealed, as the first step, 1,000 units cart are planned to be given to meatballs and chicken noodle vendor in Blok S, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta. "Besides the cart, we also provide 320 units display window sized 1.5 meters x 75 centimeters," he said.
