Vice President Ma'ruf Amin Opens IWWEF 2023

Vice President, Ma'ruf Amin opened the Indonesia Water and Wastewater Expo and Forum (IWWEF) event held at the Bidakara Hotel, South Jakarta, Tuesday (6/6).

That is why, sustainable water management must be realized

This routine activity, which is held every two years is held by the Association of Indonesian Drinking Water Companies (Perpamsi). In his speech, the water is a basic need for all living things, thus water requires careful handling.

"Climate change has the impact of drought, forest fires, melting of polar ice caps, and rising sea levels. The remaining wetlands are currently in a degraded state. That is why, sustainable water management must be realized," he expressed.

He explained most people in Indonesia have yet to enjoy the provision of proper and safe clean water as mandated by the constitution.

"Hence, the provision of clean water and proper sanitation can't be denied. In the RPJM 2020 - 2024, the government is targeting 100 percent of households to have access to proper drinking water, including 15 percent safe drinking water and 30 percent piped water," he explained.

Perpamsi Chairman, Lalu Ahmad Zaini explained the IWWEF is held to answer various challenges related to drinking water and wastewater by bringing together managers, professionals, academics, researchers, and business people as well as policy makers to discuss the latest developments and innovations in drinking water supply and waste water management.

"Through this event, Perpamsi participates in promoting sustainable and efficient drinking water and wastewater management practices. As well as encouraging the adoption of new technologies and innovations that can help address water-related challenges in Indonesia," he continued.

He added IWWEF is Perpamsi's biennial event which has strategic significance for the development of the world of drinking water and waste water in the country.

"It is the meeting point for the three components that determine the development of drinking water and wastewater, namely BUMD, the business world and the government," he finished.
