ASEAN Summit Expected to Drive Acceleration of Jakarta to Become a Global City

The 43rd ASEAN Summit which was held in Jakarta on September 5-7, 2023 is expected to accelerate Jakarta into becoming a Global City by Jakarta's vision and in line with the theme of this Summit.

The ASEAN Summit hosted by Indonesia took the theme "ASEAN Matters: Epicentrum of Growth". This theme means that Indonesia wants ASEAN to be relevant and important, as well as being a center of economic growth.
"The Jakarta Provincial Government strongly supports the implementation of the ASEAN Summit which will be held in Jakarta on September 5-7, 2023. Hopefully, it can accelerate Jakarta's vision as a Global City, which is also in line with the theme of the 43rd ASEAN Summit: epicenter of growth," expressed Regional Cooperation Bureau Head, Marulina Dewi, in the Jakarta Government's press release, Friday (9/8).

Moreover, it has an important role for Jakarta as the city is in the process of becoming a business city and a global city. As a global-scale business city, Jakarta needs to collaborate with various cities in the world, including in the ASEAN region.
"Jakarta has held meetings with Jakarta's partner cities in the ASEAN region as part of a series of events leading up to the ASEAN Summit, namely at the ASEAN MGMAC and AMF events which were held last July 31- August 2, 2023," he explained.
Various bilateral meetings and facilitation of visits, as well as dialogues with leaders of cities in the ASEAN region, were also held and opened as wide as possible. For instance, meetings with the Deputy Governor of Bangkok, Deputy Mayor of Phnom Penh, Representatives of Vietnamese Parliament, Mayor of Hanoi, and Deputy Chairperson of People's Committee for Ho Chi Minh City.
"Discussions, meetings, and visits from representatives of cities in the ASEAN region are an opportunity for the Jakarta Government to share knowledge and experience. Even, it opens opportunities for beneficial cooperation for the development of the City of Jakarta," he stated.
