The Jakarta Culture Agency (Disbud) has again received 12 Communal Intellectual Property Inventory (KIK) Indications of Origin from the Ministry of Law and Human Rights (Kemenkumham).

Hopefully, it will be a motivation for Betawi culinary practitioners

This achievement is the result of collaboration between the Jakarta Disbud, Jakarta Regional Office for Kemenkumham, and Betawi Cultural Institute (LKB) in preserving cultural heritage and improving the economy of residents.

Jakarta Disbud Head, Iwan Henry Wardhana said the KIK consists of traditional cultural expressions, traditional knowledge, genetic resources, as well as potential geographical indications that need to be protected.

"Hopefully, it will be a motivation for Betawi culinary practitioners to continuously maintain their existence in the face of the rise of culinary delights from abroad," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta Provincial Government, Friday (5/17).

Further, it was not only recognition of Betawi culture but also legal recognition from the government. Protection of KIK requires cooperation between local governments, local communities, and related stakeholders to help each other inventory each KIK into the National KIK Data Center.

The following are 12 KIK indications of origin whose inventory has been recorded:

1.    Gabus Pucung Community

2.    Asinan Betawi Community

3.    Bir Pletok Community

4.    Gado-Gado Jakarta Community

5.    Kembang Goyang Community

6.   Kerak Telor Community

7.    Laksa Betawi Community

8.    Roti Buaya Community

9.    Slendang Mayang Community

10.    Soto Betawi Community

11.    Kue Rangi Community

12.    Sayur Asem Community

"Hopefully the community, especially the Betawi culinary community, can be more enthusiastic in running their business, especially in facing increasingly complex business competition," he concluded.

As for the information, the granting of the Communal Intellectual Property Registration Letter Indication of Origin took place on Wednesday (5/15) at the Manhattan Hotel, Jakarta held by the Jakarta Regional Office for the Ministry of Law and Defense in the Promotion and Dissemination of Communal Intellectual Property activities.

It was attended by Cultural Protection Section Head, Enriany; Legal Services and Human Rights Division Head, Zulhairi; the Betawi Cultural Institute General Secretary, Imron Hasbullah; and other invitations.
