Water Channel Dredging on Jalan Danau Toba to Complete End of June

The water channel dredging on Jalan Danau Toba, Bendungan Hilir Urban Village, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta, is targeted to complete by the end of June. The work has been starting since week ago.

This condition surely triggers inundation

Tanah Abang Sub-district Water Resource Implementer Unit Head, Eli Menawan Sari, said the dredging of the channel, which is 500 meters long with a width and height of 60 centimeters, is carried out because the mud deposits had reached 50 centimeters. As a result, the channel capacity is not optimal.

"This condition surely triggers inundation during heavy rain," she said.

Eli admitted her side deployed six personnel everyday to dredge the channel.

According to her, the dredging takes more time since part of the channel is covered by concrete by building owner.

"Now the progress has reached 220 meter or 40 percent. It is targeted to complete by the end of June," she admitted.

One of the residents, Rahmat, hopes the work can be completed on time to prevent inundation during heavy rain.

"It is hoped the newly dredged water channel will be able to flow the water smoothly," he hoped.
