It aims to realize food security and environmental preservation. Tree planting and fish seed spreading will be focused on several reservoirs throughout the Jakarta area.
"It also aims to make Jakarta a resilient city. This is because reservoirs have the potential to be used as a source of food production, to accommodate rainwater overflow, and as a place of recreation. In some areas, reservoir-based recreation is able to grow the economy of the surrounding community," he expressed, as quoted by Jakarta Government's press release.
Heru Appreciates Role of 2019-2024 Legislative Period in Advancing JakartaHe also hoped hoped that all elements involved, including the community, would help preserve the Batu Bangkong Reservoir. Thus, the benefits of the facilities that have been provided could be felt optimally and sustainably.
"I entrust to Sub-district Head, Urban Village Head, RT Head, RW Head, this is maintained together, cared for. Not only the Jakarta Government is maintaining it, but residents are needed to maintain cleanliness. Thanks to all parties who have helped this activity, hopefully it can give as many benefits as possible for the community," he explained.
Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Suharini Eliawati explained the use of the reservoir as a place where fish could be harvested and become a source of animal protein to fulfill the nutritional needs of the local community.
"While, the land around the reservoir can be planted with shade trees, productive trees, and food crops, such as vegetables and secondary crops. Trees function to maintain environmental sustainability and store groundwater, productive trees for their fruit, while vegetables, and secondary crops (taro, peanuts, corn, etc.) are local food sources," she explained.
Then Jakarta SDA Agency Acting Head, Ika Agustin uttered that in Jakarta, there are about 125 reservoirs with an area of more than 600 hectares. If these reservoirs are used for freshwater fish farming, the results can help meet the fish needs of the surrounding community.
"The area is approximately 13,459 m2, consisting of 7,159 m2 of dry land and 6,300 m2 of wetlands or waters. Fish seeds can be supplied by the KPKP Agency, the community's task is to help maintain the cleanliness of the reservoir so that water quality is maintained, thus fish farming can be sustainable. Hopefully, the available land can be maximized by involving various parties, thus the results can reach a wider community," she said.
