Seribu Island PMI - Korean Red Cross Plant 2,000 Mangroves

The Seribu Island Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) together with Korean Red Cross planted 2,000 mangroves on Tidung Kecil Island, Tidung Island Urban Village, Seribu Selatan Sub-district, Seribu Island.

This mangrove planting is part of the Rainbow Forest Project 2024, and commemorates the 79th Indonesian Red Cross (PMI) Day.

2,500 Mangrove Seeds Planted on Pari Island

Seribu Island PMI Chairman, Fahrullah, said this visit is also a follow-up to the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between PMI Jakarta and the Korean Red Cross regarding the Rainbow Forest Project program in 2024.

"The planting is part of program support," he said, Thursday (9/4).

Fahrullah explained that this program also involved PMI volunteers, PMR, KSR, TSR elements, and the local community.

Secretary General of the Korean Red Cross, Jongsul Park, assessed that the Seribu Islands are the right location for planting mangroves because they are a coastal tourist area.

"We want to create more Mangrove forests to preserve nature. Mangroves have many benefits such as reducing the risk of disasters and can be a habitat for marine biota," he stated.
