Jakarta Acting Governor, Heru Budi Hartono, inaugurated the Kick-Off for Jakarta Planning Study Towards a Global City in the Pola Room, Jakarta City Hall, Wednesday (9/11).
Optimizing potential is the key to competing with other global cities
According to him, the preparation of this study plays an important role in strengthening Jakarta's role as a Global City. In the next twenty years, Jakarta is targeted to be ranked in the top 20 in the Global City Index as stated in the 2025-2045 Jakarta Regional Long-Term Development Plan (RPJPD).
To achieve this goal, he emphasized the need for a structured explanation through the right strategy by optimizing the resources and uniqueness of Jakarta.

He went on to say that the direction of Jakarta's development towards a Global City focuses on realizing Jakarta as the economic center of Southeast Asia, with an estimated per capita income by USD 86,000. Additionally, on developing superior, productive, and prosperous human resources with a Human Development Index (HDI) target of reaching 92.93 and reducing Green House Gas emissions towards Net Zero Emissions by 2050.
Jakarta Government also continues to formulate strategies, such as strengthening branding and developing urban, historical, and maritime tourism; developing a creative economy that focuses on exports, as well as preserving culture through the development of art spaces; strengthening the research and innovation ecosystem in all fields; providing reliable and sustainable city infrastructure; increasing intra- and inter-city connectivity and accessibility through the development of mass transportation infrastructure and increasing connectivity to Seribu Islands.
"Jakarta Planning Study towards a Global City will be a roadmap to achieve Top Global City. Therefore, the BUMD heads can commit, synergize, and play an active role in compiling this study," he furthered.
Jakarta Bappeda Head, Atika Nur Rahmania explained the preparation of this study is expected to be conducted with all Regional Apparatus and BUMD following the preparation team regulated by the Governor's Decree.
"The output produces a comprehensive, integrative, and quality study document. The drafting team will be assisted by experts with international standards from the Global Management Consulting Firm that publishes one of the global city indexes, the Global City Index, namely A.T Kearney," she explained.
The drafting process will be carried out for five months, with the study implementation plan having begun since the preparation stage, namely in August until finalization at the end of 2024.
She added the study on Jakarta's planning towards a Global City would produce eight books containing a picture of Jakarta's future, strategies, implementation stages, quick wins, stakeholder mapping, and a roadmap that would serve as operational guidelines for realizing Jakarta as a Top 20 Global City.
"The process of compiling this study will also go through a participatory process involving relevant stakeholders including Ministries/Institutions, Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs), academics, and professional associations," she uttered.
