Acting Governor Teguh Supports Jakarta's Commitment to Sustainable Waste Management

Jakarta Provincial Government is synergizing with the Indonesian Ministry of Environment to manage sustainable waste. The synergy is aimed to realize environmental sustainability in Jakarta. The cooperation is realized through the 'Jakarta Clean Waste Collaboration, Clean Indonesia' activity at the Gelora Bung Karnno (GBK)'s City Forest, Senayan, Central Jakarta, Sunday (11/17).

Acting Jakarta Governor, Teguh Setyabudi said Jakarta Provincial Government continues to commit in optimizing waste sorting directly from the source. This is the acceleration of waste management in accordance with good environmental management.

Educational programs are also held to raise public awareness of the importance of responsible waste management," Teguh said, as quoted from the Jakarta Provincial Government's press release.
Teguh also appreciated this activity since it was held simultaneously in seven Jakarta areas. GBK City Forest as the main location was equipped with two-way active relay and streaming interaction facilities from six other locations, and was attended by 1,900 participants. The other six locations were the A-Gree Environmental Garden, Meruya Utara, West Jakarta; Sungai Bambu Village, Tanjung Priok, North Jakarta; Jalan Pangkalan Jati III, Cipinang Melayu, East Jakarta; Angkasa Pura Complex, Kemayoran, Central Jakarta; Bumi Pesanggrahan, Pesanggrahan, South Jakarta, and Untung Jawa Island, Seribu Island.
"The action also involved society elements in Jakarta including school, environmental communities, media and social media activists, and general public. It is hoped that this collaboration can strengthen the commitment of all parties to manage waste better, preserve the environment, and support the realization of Jakarta as a sustainable global city," he added.
Meanwhile, Acting General Secretary of the Ministry of Environment/General Secretary of the Environmental Control Agency, Rosa Vivien Ratnawati stated that the participants had previously sorted waste from home and school. The waste has the potential to be recycled which is used as an entrance ticket to the event.
"All participants get snacks in a special place with reusable containers and can be taken home. Participants were also asked to bring their own drink containers to get free drink here. The stage ornaments of this event were printed with fabric that will be recycled as a material for making shopping bags. So it will not be thrown away in any dump site," she stated.
During the event, Jakarta Environmental Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto, read the Declaration of Waste Management Acceleration. There was also the signing of an agreement and commitment to waste management by the hotel, restaurant, and cafe sectors, witnessed by Acting Governor Teguh.
