Jakartans Asked to Report Immediately If They Find FMD Cases

Jakarta Food Security, Marine, and Agriculture (KPKP) Agency urges residents to immediately report and consult with officers if they find livestock that are indicated to have Foot-and-Mouth Disease (FMD).

"Be sure to report us immediately if you find signs of FMD,"

Jakarta KPKP Agency Head, Suharini Eli mentinoed, FMD is caused by virus and spreads very quickly among cloven-hoofed animals, such as cattle, buffaloes, goats, sheep, and pigs, and has a potential to reduce livestock production.

"The virus is found in the blood, saliva, and viscera of sick animals. It has a potential to be transmitted to other sensitive animals through water used to wash offal and its remaining pieces that are discarded as waste has a potential to transmit the virus to other sensitive animals that eat them," she explained, Monday (1/20).
