Community-based Total Sanitation is Declared in Kebayoran Baru

Community-based Total Sanitation (STBM) to stop open defecation was declared in Kebayoran Baru Sub-district, South Jakarta.

"I'm sure, if everyone works together, we won't need five years to resolve open defecation,"

South Jakarta Mayor, Munjirin said that a region can achieve total sanitation if there is hygiene and sanitation behaviour through community empowerment.

"People need to be educated to change their behavior, increase access to sanitation, and sustainable community-based management," he conveyed, Tuesday (2/4).

He asked all Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPDs), local administrators, and other parties to contribute in handling open defecation.

"It is also important to have institutional support for the community in the form of integrated coaching across related sectors to achieve total sanitation," he expressed.

He asserted that with this joint commitment, his side targeted to overcome open defecation issue in South Jakarta within 1-2 years.

"I'm sure, if everyone works together, we won't need five years to resolve open defecation," he mentioned.

Meanwhile, Kebayoran Baru Health Center Head, Tresia Arthati stated that currently 40 out of 73 RWs in her working area have been declared Open Defecation Free (ODF).

"Hopefully, the remaining RWs that haven't yet achieved ODF, after the declaration can be followed up with the further plans to make Kebayoran Baru free from Open Defecation," she expressed.
