Petukangan River in Pegangsaan Dua Being Dredged from Mud

The North Jakarta Water Resources (SDA) Sub-agency dredges the Petukangan River in Pegangsaan Dua, Kelapa Gading Sub-district.

The progress of dredging has currently reached 23.75 percent

North Jakarta SDA Sub-agency Head, Ahmad Saipul said today's dredging is a follow-up to the flood evaluation results occurred in Kelapa Gading at the end of January 2025 due to the overflow of the Cakung Lama River.

"This dredging is started from the rear segment of PT Krama Yudha Ratu Motor to Sedayu City," he expressed, Friday (2/7).

He explained this 12-meter-wide river is slated to be dredged up to 2.16 kilometers. This will add depth of up to 2.5 to three meters.

"In overall, the progress of dredging has reached 23.75 percent," he explained.

He added the work started in mid-January involves seven personnel, one amphibious excavator, and five dump trucks to transport sediment, mud, and waste.

Then the difficult access to the location becomes an obstacle for the work, as well as the mobility of heavy equipment and dump trucks for loading mud in the river.

"This is targeted for completion by the end of April 2025. Hopefully, it can minimize puddles and floods," he hoped.

Kelapa Gading Sub-district Head, Anita Permata Sari expressed this dredging is the North Jakarta City administration's attention for flood in the area.

"Hopefully, it can maximize the capacity to accommodate the water flow from East Jakarta, to reduce the burden on the Cakung Lama River," he hoped.
