North Jakarta Mayor, Ali Maulana Hakim said the clean-up action was conducted in commemoration of National Waste Care Day (HPSN) 2025, which is observed every February 21.

This year's HPSN commemoration carries the theme "Collaboration for a Clean Indonesia." This action aims to strengthen cross-sector collaboration to maintain environmental cleanliness, especially in the coastal areas of North Jakarta.

Governor Hopes RDF Plant to Become Integrated Waste Management Solution

"We conducted it simultaneously yesterday in eight locations across Indonesia, one of which was North Jakarta at Ancol," he expressed, Monday (2/24).

He hoped that this becomes a concrete step in realizing a clean, healthy, and sustainable environment. The involvement of various elements of society is important in creating a greener and more environmentally friendly future.

"Hopefully, this momentum will mobilize the community and raise awareness in maintaining the cleanliness of their environment, because your waste is your responsibility," he explained.

North Jakarta Environment Sub-agency Head, Edy Mulyanto explained prior to the clean-up action, a joint assembly was held led by Environment Deputy Minister, Diaz Hendropriyono.

It was attended by around 860 people consisting of elements from the Rainbow Brigade, North Jakarta Regional Apparatus Organizations (OPD), national army, police engaged in environmental issues, and North Jakarta Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) Forum.

"The majority of the waste we collect is inorganic waste," he added.

According to him, the waste was transported by two units of garbage boats owned by the Seribu Islands Environmental Sub-agency and then taken and sorted at the Greenbay Pluit Waste Bank.

"This is not a ceremonial event but an effort to raise awareness among residents to sort waste at its source. So, our current slogan is to dispose of waste by sorting it to create economic value," he added.

They also provided education with several hotel, restaurant, and cafe (Horeka) tenants in Ancol to play a role in managing and processing waste properly.

"We want everyone to have concern for waste management," he stated.
