Jakarta Collaborates with Across Regions to Address Urban Issues

Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, is committed to strengthening collaboration with various regions in addressing urban challenges, ranging from food security, waste management, to transportation and the availability of clean water.

Jakarta now suddenly has a treasure

He conveyed this statement during the Governor's Working Meeting of Mitra Praja Utama 2025 at the Borobudur Hotel, Central Jakarta, Tuesday (6/17).

"Jakarta is very happy, excited to collaborate and work together with all the regional heads in these 10 provinces," he expressed.

Jakarta Ready to Build PLTSa to Handle Waste Problems

He also invited partner regions to collaborate in the fields of agriculture and food. Jakarta currently has very limited agricultural land, approximately two percent, which is dominated by modern agriculture.

With a population reaching 15 million during the day and 10.8 million at night, Jakarta's food demand is very high.

"This is what we offer. First, we can collaborate on matters of rice, meat, concretely, and then for other things," he explained.

Aside that, he was optimistic that the waste problem would soon be resolved, especially with the presence of technology for processing waste into electricity, such as incinerators and waste-to-energy power plants.

He explained that waste management has become a new economic potential in Jakarta with a reserve of 55 million tons of waste in Bantargebang and an addition of 7,700 tons of new waste from Jakarta every day.

"Jakarta now suddenly has a treasure. It is called waste as the technology has now been discovered, both by China, Europe, and Japan," he explained.

Based on the President's directive, the Jakarta Government would build four to five solar power plants, which have a daily capacity of 2,500 tons of waste. Thereby, it offered cooperation with various other provinces to solve the waste problem in Jakarta.

"Every day I receive guests mostly about waste issues. Because the technology has become very easy and everyone claims to have received guidance from the President," he continued.

In the transportation sector, he mentioned that the congestion in the capital could not be resolved solely with Transjakarta services. Hence, the Jakarta Government would expand the Transjabodetabek public transportation services by opening 10 new routes.

"For this Transjabodetabek, the regions that are directly adjacent to Jakarta are West Java and Banten. Hence, we will open approximately 10 new routes," he added.

As of now, five new Transjabodetabek routes have been in operation. Among them are Blok M - Alam Sutera, Blok M - PIK 2, Blok M - Bogor, Blok M - Depok, and Blok M - Vida Bekasi.

To push people to use public transportation, the Jakarta Government would provide free Transjabodetabek fares for 15 groups of people, including residents of Bekasi, Depok, Cianjur, Tangerang, and South Tangerang.

This subsidy would be funded through an increase in parking fees and the implementation of Electronic Road Pricing (ERP) after obtaining permission from the Central Government.

"We will fully use the ERP to provide subsidies for residents outside of Jakarta," he furthered.

He was also targeting 100 percent clean water fulfillment in Jakarta by 2029. Thus far, only 71 percent of Jakarta's water needs were met by the Jatiluhur Reservoir.

Regarding the Karian Dam project that has not been running optimally, his team will finish it if the current contractor is not qualified.

"Why are we doing this? I want Jakarta to have clean water by 2029. Right now, it's only 71 percent," he asserted.

Currently, PAM Jaya has around two million customers. The number of customers is targeted to increase to three million by 2029 and to push for going public or conducting an Initial Public Offering (IPO).

The plan for PAM Jaya to go public is believed to bring benefits. Therefore, Pramono encouraged collaboration with the Government of West Java and Banten.

He also mentioned the request for grants from regions, especially for ambulances and fire trucks. His party would prioritize areas that are not directly adjacent to Jakarta in the allocation of grants.

In this working meeting, he emphasized that the most prioritized concrete cooperation was related to food supply, especially agricultural products and meat.

"I am open to collaborating, even though we have already signed the agreement with the six points, but indeed a more detailed collaboration is important," he closed.
