Head of Jakarta Population and Civil Registration (Dukcapil) Agency, Denny Wahyu Haryanto, reminded the public to stay vigilant against a surge in scams under the guise of Digital Population Identity (IKD) activation.
"We come directly, gather residents in one location, and our officers assist them with the activation,"
He emphasized that IKD activation can only be done in person, directly with an official officer.
"There's been a surge in IKD-related scams, even nationwide. The Director General of Dukcapil issued a circular on June 5 to warn residents that IKD activation is never done through private communication, like phone calls, SMS, or WhatsApp messages," he asserted, Thursday (8/7).

"We come directly, gather residents in one location, and our officers assist them with the activation. This is our effort to protect public data from cybercrime," he mentioned.
According to him, these fraud attempts have targeted not only the general public, but also Dukcapil officials. He revealed that even a division head was contacted by someone pretending to be a public relations officers from a sub-district office.
"One of our heads of division received two-three calls from someone claiming to be a sub-district PR staff in West Jakarta. There were also fake letters sent. So, this is something we must all stay alert for," he said.
On the other hand, Jakarta Commission A Member, Nuchbatillah, shared that she was targeted by a scam on August 2. A caller, pretending to be from the Integrated Dukcapil service, attempted to deceive her.
"I missed six calls. When I finally picked up, they claimed to be from Central Jakarta. When I ask for the Head of Sub-agency's name, they gave the wrong one. I immediately knew it was a scam," she said.
She urged Dukcapil to intensify its outreach initiatives to ensure the public is better informed and protected.
