Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung conducted a working visit to Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (JSDP) Zone 1 Pluit site in Pluit Reservoir, Penjaringan, North Jakarta, on Thursday (10/30).
" As a global, inclusive, and future-oriented city, wastewater management must be handled properly,"
This visit was intended to monitor the progress of a centralized and integrated wastewater pipeline network in Jakarta.
The project began in 2023, with Zone 1 is targeted for completion in 2027, which expected to serve around 220,000 households or roughly one million residents. Meanwhile, construction in Zone 0, located in Setiabudi, has been completed.
Traffic Diversion in Place for Motorists at Some Roads to Smoothen JSDP Work"This is actually a very strategic project. As a global, inclusive, and future-oriented city, wastewater management must be handled properly," said Pramono.
He underlined the project's role in improving Jakarta's wastewater management. The Jakarta Provincial Government, in collaboration with the central government, plans to integrate clean water and wastewater services.
He believes that bundling both services will make it easier for the public to create a healthier living environment.
"In the future, I will work with the central government to ensure clean water and wastewater services are jointly managed as a bundled service," he added.
Pramono acknowledged that the project's construction would impact traffic congestion. However, he explained that most of the Jakarta Sewerage Development Project (JSDP) work is being carried out underground, even at depths of 20 to 30 meters.
"Traffic congestion caused by this project is unavoidable. But given the importance of this project and the need to prepare Jakarta as a city of the future, it must move forward," he mentioned.
Therefore, he encouraged transparent and open communication with the public regarding the construction process. In addition, the Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to implement traffic engineering measures to keep traffic flowing smoothly.
Director General of Human Settlements at the Ministry of Public Works, Dewi Chomistriana, added that the JSDP project is crucial for public health, as it aims to separate wastewater from clean water pipelines and reduce soil pollution.
"This is very important for Jakarta and its residents. And Zone 1 of this project will only serve 7.8 percent of Jakarta's total population," she explained.
For reference, the service area of JSDP Zone 1 covers parts of North and West Jakarta, totaling 4,901 hectares. The Zone 1 Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) is located in the northwest area of Pluit Reservoir.
