Jakarta Preps for Extreme Weather through February 2026

The Jakarta government announced preparedness in facing and anticipating the impacts of the rainy season, which the BMKG predicts will occur from November 2025 to February 2026.

We will prepare early to prevent any delayed response

This statement was conveyed by Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung during the rally and preparedness simulation of Jaga Jakarta in facing the rainy season, at the Limpah Sungai Lebak Bulus Room, South Jakarta, Tuesday (11/4).

"Based on BMKG predictions, it is expected that rainfall will increase from November to February next year, and therefore we will prepare early to prevent any delayed response," he expressed.

Here is Jakarta BPBD's Tips for Facing Extreme Weather

His party has prepared several mitigation measures to minimize the risks of the rainy season's impact. Among them, dredging at 1,803 points in rivers and reservoirs with a volume of up to 721,243 cubic meters to increase water capacity.

In addition, 560 stationary pumps are also alerted at 191 locations and 627 mobile pumps in five administrative regions, supported by 258 excavators, 449 dump trucks, and other equipment. Seven pump houses and sluice gates are also on standby to anticipate tidal flooding.

Gradually, the government is implementing nature-based solutions in the construction of dams, reservoirs, and small lakes in Jakarta, and is conducting the cutting of old trees and the pruning of trees at risk of falling.

"Preparing personnel from various agencies for monitoring and rapid response in the field, and conducting socialization and education about extreme weather so that the community always updates weather forecast information," he continued.

Jakarta, which is a lowland area drained by 13 rivers, faces the risk of flooding and inundation, especially with the predicted runoff from Bogor and Depok, which is expected to increase significantly.

There is also a potential for tidal flooding in the northern coastal area of Jakarta due to high sea levels coinciding with the full moon phase.

Therefore, Pramono reminded all field personnel to collaborate in the rejuvenation of old trees at vulnerable points. He also urged the related agencies to ensure that all pumps and sluice gates are functioning optimally and ready for operation.

The Jakarta government, together with the central government, will also conduct weather modification operations from November 5 to 10, 2025, during which heavy rainfall is expected.

"To all field task forces, improve communication, monitoring, and the speed of information to residents around each area," he asserted.

The rally started in South Jakarta because it is the most affected area in recent days. Similar activities will continue throughout other parts of the city with the involvement of army, police, volunteers, and residents.

He stated that the synergy of all elements is the main key. This rally was held to ensure the readiness of all levels from upstream to the coast and to collaborate in facing potential disasters during the rainy season.

On this occasion, the Governor also expressed his appreciation to all volunteers and residents who helped reduce the impact of the flood. He urged all members of the community to maintain their enthusiasm for making meaningful contributions to environmental preservation in the city and the safety of Jakarta residents.

"Let's make this morning's rally a tangible proof of our commitment to protect Jakarta residents from disaster risks caused by heavy rainfall," he closed.
