Channel Normalization Along Jalan Dwi Warna Raya Stagnated

The normalization work of water channel along Jalan Dwi Warna Raya, Kartini Urban Village, Sawah Besar, Central Jakarta , hampered with the dense residential. The heavy equipment that planned to go down to the channel could not get in and finally the dredging is conducted manually.

Relaying on Beritajakarta.com’s observation, the channel all this time has been covered with concrete thus it had not been dredged for years.

Normalization Work will Be Conducted in Grogol River

"We have agreed with the building owners that normalization has to be finished. We want them to demolish by themselves as if it's forced using heavy equipment it could damage the house sides," said Central Jakarta Mayor, Mangara Pardede, (11/2).

According to Pardede, the channel would be easy to clean if it is opened. Residents whose house is still covering the channel have to voluntarily demolish it. "It is not functioned yet as there are still buildings covering the channel," he explained.

Meanwhile, Head of Central Jakarta Water Management Sub-Department, Herning Wahyuningsih uttered that the difficulty of normalization process is the impact of house foundation standing on water channel. Aside that, the extra time is needed due to small access.

"So, it needs process considering the location is quite narrow. But we're trying as soon as possible thus the channel would function normally," he finished.
