City-Kemenkominfo Launched SMS Service for Disaster

Jakarta Provincial Government and Ministry of Communication and Informatic (Kemenkominfo) launched short message service (SMS) for disaster early warning in Jakarta. The launching was marked with cooperation signing among both institutions.

Through this service, citizen can more prepare themselves when disaster happened

It is addressed to people living in areas prone to flood, especially areas that passed by 13 rivers, such as Ciliwung, Krukut, Angke, Pesanggrahan, Sunter, and Cipinang.

"Through this service, citizen can more prepare themselves when disaster happened," he stated, at City Hall, Thursday (2/11).

Head of Implementer Unit for Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD), Denni Wahyu disclosed his party will send early warning content to Ministry of Communication and Informatic. "Its content is from us. Then sent to them and resent to resident," he expressed.

Its work is when the water level was detected a certain height thus it will immediately inform the public. Thus people have the opportunity to prepare. For example, water level at Katulampa Dam increases, water will hit some areas around Ciliwung about 6-9 hours.

Minister of Communication and Informatic, Rudiantara disclosed, there are four cellular operators. They are Indosat Ooredoo, XL Axiata, 3, and Telkomsel. "We only send message to those who are near the riverbank or areas hit by disaster," he told.

On that occasion, the service has been tested in Kampung Melayu Urban Village with teleconference.

The message that has been sent is "Flood early warning trial for Jakartans. The result of the cooperation between Ministry of Communication and Informatic-Jakarta Governor, supported by the Telecommunication Operator 021-164 Call Centre for BPBD".
