Collapsed Billboard, Shows Its Troubled Management

The incident of collapsed billboard in front of Wisma BCA, Jalan S Parman, West Jakarta yesterday, indicates of troubled billboard regulations. Because of it, Jakarta Vice Governor asked Department of Building Control (P2B) to check construction permission of billboard. The man who is familiar called Ahok expecting the billboard was constructed carelessly.

"Illegal billboard must be punished," Basuki said at City Hall, Wednesday (4/23).

He admitted, city billboard maintenance start from permissions to taxes is very hampered. "That is the biggest problem. Many tax are gone, the construction is not appropriate. All of old permission are hampered. Many permissions were given but the billboard owner was never asking for construction audit," he added.

According to Ahok, construction audit should be done first before extending permission. But the facts revealed opposite.

"We have to check it first. If there is a letter from P2B about construction audit, but the company refused, so it is their mistake, there must be punishment," he stated.

Basuki also presented condolences to victims family of collapsed billboard in Slipi.

As reported, the billboard in front of Wisma BCA, Jalan S Parman, West Jakarta, collapsed when heavy rain with strong wind happened on Jakarta, Tuesday (4/22).

Several drivers became victims and got injured seriously due to stricken with big billboards. Traffic flow from Grogol through Slipi had jammed.
