Here Are Tips How to Use LPG Gas Stoves Safely

During Ramadhan, residents are appealed to raise awareness of fire hazard, especially caused from LPG gas stoves, because it is often used for cooking during sahur (predawn meal).

Don't panic, remove the regulator and then take it to the open space

East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-dept. will tell tips how to use LPG gas stoves safely. It is because most residents are still less alert when they prepare food for sahur.

Before cooking, check first the regulator from the gas cylinder and its hose leading to the stove. If the gas is smelled, do not trigger it into a fire.

"If a gas leak occurs, don't press the switch to turn on or off the light at that time," expressed Edi Parwoko, Section Head of Prevention for East Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-dept., Friday (5/26).

Then use lighting equipment that also does not cause heat like candles or matches. Do not panic, and then gently remove the regulator from the gas cylinder. "Don't panic, remove the regulator and then take it to the open space," he continued.

If the fire comes out from the stove, just use a sack or a towel to put out it. To do it optimally, you would be better to have a portable fire extinguisher (Apar).

"If there is kerosene, just spray it using water. Or can use Apar," he told.

Lastly, you should be better use regulators and hoses for LPG gas stoves that have Indonesian National Standard (SNI).
