Anticipating Crime, 7,500 Policemen Put on Standby Along Ramadan

Crime rate is predicted would increase during fasting month of Ramadan. To prevent crime, the City Police put on standby thousands of its personnel in crime-prone locations to secure the capital city.

“Ahead of Ramadan is usually identical with increasing street crime actions. Because of that, City Police put 7,500 officers on standby to prevent street crimes. They will be spread in crime-prone locations, with plain clothes,” stated City Police Chief Ins. Gen. Dwi Priyatno, Thursday (6/19).

In addition, Priyatno also informed that City Police will hold three Cipta Kondisi Operations starting in early Ramadan until ahead of Eid ul Fitr.

“All ranks of resort police have been instructed to increase guards and add patrol hours. This is because the activities during Ramadan are increasing from evening until morning,” he explained.

Meanwhile, City Police Public Relations Division Chief Sr. Comr. Rikwanto told that the types of crime which rampant ahead of Ramadan and Eid ul Fitr are crime with violence or street crimes as well as criminals targeting bank customers, jewelry stores, and empty houses.

“Those are what we’ll anticipate for. Especially for bank customers who need to be escorted, we are ready. Just come to the nearest police stations and ask. It (the escort) is free of charge,” he said.
