JNF Leaves 20 Tons of Trashes

The Jakarta Night Festival (JNF), the peak celebration of Jakarta’s 487th anniversary held on Saturday (6/21) night, was running festively. From this event, which attended by Acting Jakarta Governor Basuki T Purnama and hundreds of thousands of people, as many as 20 tons trashes were produced.

Head of Jakarta Cleanliness Department, Saptastri Edinigtyas Kusumadewi, told that trash volume in JNF this year is much less than JNF last year which only 150 tons. She assessed that the decrease reflects public awareness in not littering is increasing.

Trash volume in Jakarta’s anniversary this year is less than previous year, because not many people littered , which mostly were mineral water bottles. Their awareness in dumping trash to trash bins was also high,” she stated, Monday (6/23).According to Kusumadewi, her party provided many trash bins during JNF implementation. Moreover, the scavengers also helped to pick up the trashes left, like plastic bottles for resale.
“We provide trash bin on each stage and in every 50 meters along the event’s location. Almost all trash bins were full. However, JNF visitors this year were not as much as last year,” she uttered.
Meanwhile, the amount of trash collected after the Jakarnaval held on Sunday (6/22) was 4 tons. After the event finished, janitors directly cleaned the trashes, so city streets are clean again from trashes.
