TransJakarta Bus Hit Tree, 21 Passengers Injured

Allegedly its driver sleepy, TransJakarta bus B 7014 IX in corridor III (Kalideres-Harmoni) hit a tree on Jalan Daan Mogot KM 10, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, at 6.40 AM, Friday (7/4). Because of this incident, 20 passengers and driver are injured. All of them were rushed to Sumber Waras Hospital to get medical treatment.

“Before it hit a tree, the bus was running fast, there was no vehicle in front of it. The driver was probably sleepy. When the bus was shaky, he swerved to the right and hit a palm tree standing on green belt,” told Wayan (45), an eyewitness.

According to policeman from West Jakarta Traffic Unit, Aiptu Agus, 11 out of 21 injured passengers are Siti Mutingah (26), Nuryani Simangunsong  (28), Raden Roro Rieke (27), Putri Irma Maulana (14), Mia Jumi Astuti (23), Nurul Tuti Darmawati (26), Janny Halim (30), Rani Awaliyah (16), Rohmawati (47), Indah Permawitianti (18), and Vitta Wijaya Karyanto (19).

“All passengers only suffer minor injuries and have been brought to Sumber Waras Hospital. As for the cause of the incident, it was allegedly sleepy driver. I don’t know the name of the driver and his condition. This case is handled by City Police Traffic Directorate,” he stated.

Meanwhile, TransJakarta spokesperson, Sri Ulina Pinem, explained that the crash caused the front of the bus severely damaged, rear window broken, and front axle broken.

“There are 21 passengers are injured, including the driver. All of them only suffer minor injuries due to impact. Some of them have been allowed to go home by the hospital. All treatment costs are covered by Trans Batavia as the bus operator, in accordance to the contract. But, I don’t know how much the total costs are,” she uttered.
