S. Jakarta Administration Overwhelmed to Overcome Trash Problem

There were previously 99 points of trash transport handled by private side, and now it became our responsibility

Head of South Jakarta Cleanliness Sub-Department, Zaenal Syarifuddin acknowledged that his sub-department overwhelmed to overcome the trash problem in South Jakarta. Since the privatization of the trash transport system was abolished, the Cleanliness Sub-Department's duty is getting heavier. Moreover, the existence of garbage truck is still lacking.

"There were previously 99 points of trash transport handled by private side, and now it became our responsibility," said Zaenal Syarifuddin, Monday (7/7).

City to Rent Garbage Trucks

Of the 99 points, he can only transport trash in 78 points. This is caused by lack of garbage truck. "We only have 126 small and big-sized trucks, while rejuvenation for big truck has not been implemented fully," he expressed.

Fortunately, he got 10 new small-sized trucks from Jakarta Cleanliness Department. "Those are sent to 10 sub-districts in order to transport trash piles on the roadside, etc," he told.

He continued that trash production in South Jakarta reaches 1,160 tons per day. "Most trash is from 10 sub-districts. Thus far, there is no trash surge at the beginning of the fasting month. Perhaps it would be detected in the last week," he stated.
