Residents Want TPS on Jalan Kenari II to Be Relocated
Reported by Suriaman Panjaitan | Translated by Rini Elvira
The dumpsite (TPS) on Jalan Kenari II, Kenari Urban Village, Senen Sub-District, Central Jakarta, has existed since five years ago and is the only dumpsite for surrounding residents to dump their household wastes. But since the trashes are often picked up late to Bantar Gebang Integrated Landfill (TPST), the dumpsite becomes over-capacity.
This condition has been going on for five years. We have reported, but there is no action
As a result, trashes are scattered onto the road, which disturbs road users. And when rain pours, it makes the road becomes slippery and resulted to bikers slipped when passing the dumpsite. Not to mention, it produces smell odor that could harm residents’ health. Because of these reasons, the locals as well as road users are asking for the dumpsite to be relocated.
Muladi (43), resident of RT 02/01 Kenari, disclosed that the residents have proposed to urban village officials to relocate the dumpsite. But until now, there is no respond yet. “This condition has been going on for five years. We have reported, but there is no action,” he said, Tuesday (7/15).
Dumpsite Next to Central Jakarta Mayor Office ComplainedMartin (30), a biker who passes the dumpsite almost every day, also conveyed the same request. “The dumpsite cannot accommodate trash anymore. In rainy season, it smells really stingy and causes the road slippery because the trashes become mixed with rainwater and scattered onto the road. Before it causes casualty, hopefully the urban village or sub-district officials would be responsive with this situation,” he uttered.
Responding the residents’ complaints, Deputy Head of Senen Sub-District, Ichsan Saruri, admitted that indeed the dumpsite on Jalan Kenari II is over-capacity. Although the residents have proposed it to be relocated, not enough residents agreed it yet. “There is no majority agreement yet. If the residents have agreed, we’ll be happy to relocate it. We also have proposed for additional dumpsite to Central Jakarta Administration during meeting in the mayor’s office, but somehow it hasn’t been done,” he stated.
