East Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department normalizes 62 sewers that are clogged by trashes and caused the roads and settlements in the municipality often inundated. One of those drainages is located on Jalan Raya Bina Warga, Ceger Urban Village, Cipayung Sub-District. There, some workers are seen dredging the mud and trashes to be then put into sacks and piled along 400 meters of the sewer’s bank.

Manto (40), one of the workers, said the normalization work has been carried out since last week. The two-meter wide sewer is having sedimentation since its depth is now only 40 centimeters from initially 80-100 centimeters.
“We’re only asked to dredge the mud in clean the trashes in this sewer. The sedimentation often triggers inundations when rain pours,” he told, Tuesday (8/19).

There, about 40 workers are busy dredging the sewer as long as 200 meters. The sewer is normalized because the road and settlement around it are often flooded up to 100 centimeters high whenever rain pours.
“I’m glad the sewer is normalized. When rain pours, this area is often flooded for as high as 60-100 centimeters because the sewer is shallow. The flood even reached to Jalan Mabes Hankam. Hopefully with this dredging, the inundations could be resolved,” expressed Tatang (30), a resident of RW 02 Bambu Apus.
Meanwhile, Head of East Jakarta Water Management Public Works Sub-Department Sewers Maintenance Section, Ahmad Yazied Bustomi, told that the normalization work is prioritized on sewers which often triggered inundations when rain pours. Besides mentioned sewers, other sewers normalized are located on Jalan Raya Bogor in front of PT Khong Guan factory, Jalan Pagalarang Cipayung, Jalan Makmur Cipayung, Jalan SMP Nurul Huda Cipayung, Jalan Pinang Ranti Timur Makasar, and Jalan Aneka Elok Cakung.
