4 Private Companies Interested to Build KIR Test Centers

Jakarta Vice Governor Basuki T Purnama disclosed that at this time there are four private companies interested to build Motor Vehicle Testing Center (PKB). Later, those companies will join in investment auction and asked to build six PKBs equipped with international-standard equipments.

There is no more like monorail poles. This is our land. So when you build and not finish, everything becomes mine

“Everything is auctioned, you must do everything. But, I want BOT. so when you build, it instantly becomes mine (Jakarta Provincial Government). You only have management operational contract,” stated Basuki, Monday (8/26).

Basuki stressed that based on previous experience, Jakarta Provincial Government must make a clear agreement and list assurance. Thus, if the construction did not finish in a certain amount of time, all what had been built will be seized.

City Asked to Build New KIR Test Places

“There is no more like monorail poles. This is our land. So when you build and not finish, everything becomes mine,” he asserted.

According to Basuki, private companies are interested to build PKB because motorists are able to pay high price. At this time, the retribution for KIR test in Jakarta is only Rp 87 thousand. However, motorists are willing to pay Rp 400 thousand in the name of speed.

“KIR test official retribution in Jakarta is only Rp 87 thousand, but in average people pay Rp 400 thousand. Since entrepreneurs think that if those people stand not working all day, they would be at loss. They are willing to pay Rp 300 thousand more just to make it (KIR test process) quick,” he explained.

Basuki uttered this after he heard the exposure from PT TUV SUD PSB Indonesia and PT TUV Rheinland Indonesia about motor vehicle periodic test system. Earlier, PT SGS had also done the same exposure.

Meanwhile, Head of Jakarta Transportation Department, M Akbar, admitted that current PKBs are not enough, so Jakarta Provincial Government is looking for investors to build more. About those companies, they are all have the same international standards and also have experiences in running KIR test in Germany, Italy, and Turkish.

“They invest, we operate. We get designs, while they have international standard experiences,” he told.
