Jakarta Government builds cooperation with ICLEI-Local Governments For Sustainability Indonesia to accelerate the reduction of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in Jakarta through Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) which is signed by Jakarta Secretary, Saefullah and Country Manager of ICLEI-Local Governments For Sustainability Indonesia, Gina Karina.
"This cooperation becomes a legal protection for Jakarta Government. This cooperation is focus on Jakarta as the role model in Southeast Asia," stated Saefullah after signing the MoU, on Thursday (8/1).
City Commits to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions in 2030Through this cooperation, his side hopes government can gain knowledge and experience about building a sustainable city with low carbon development, that is inclusive and involving citizens in it.
"Moreover, I hope Jakarta government can lead Jakarta to be more adaptive to climate change," he added.
In the other hand, Gina Karina mentioned that her side will help Jakarta to socialize its target to reach citizens and encourage them to be active in this program.
"Citizens will take a part in it and put their commitment in form of a strategy document to accelerate the target of GHG emission reduction with a bottom-up approach called Promise of Jakarta," she stated.
According to her, this program will be implemented in three countries in Southeast Asia: Indonesia, Philippines, and Vietnam.
"Jakarta is chosen as the role model, while Bekasi and Tangerang are chosen as satellite cities," she informed.
Purpose of this MoU is to reduce GHG emission in accordance with Governor Regulation (Pergub) No. 131/2012 about Regional Action Plans to Reduce Greenhouse Gas Emissions by 30 percent in 2030. Later, it is expected to bring Jakarta to achieve Ambitious City Promises and support Jakarta to compile climate profile using Carbon Climate Registry (CCR) reporting format and report its result to the global level.
