Residents Protesting BTS Tower Construction in Kramatjati

Tens of residents who live on Jalan Nusa 1, RT 02/03, Kramatjati, East Jakarta, staged demonstration as form of their protest against BTS tower construction in their neighborhood. The tower belongs to a cellular telephone operator company.

The demonstration is staged in front of a house belongs to Riswanto (50) since it is located right above his house. Because of this tower, the residents complained that their television channels become disrupted. Moreover, the tower is alleged not have building permit (IMB).

Chief of RT 02/03 Kramatjati, Doddy Susanto, stressed that he and other residents are objected with the existence of the BTS tower in their neighborhood.

Kebon Pala Residents Worry over Tower Construction

“We, as RT caretakers, were never been told about this BTS tower construction. The residents’ television channels are also become disrupted since this tower exists,” he lamented, Friday (9/5).

Meanwhile, Head of Kramatjati Sub-District, Dian Purfanto, stressed that he never issue recommendation for BTS tower construction in his jurisdiction. Thus, he assessed there are two possibilities regarding this matter.

“(The tower) may don’t have IMB. Or, if it had IMB, it manipulates the environment data,” he stated.

In separate place, Head of Law Enforcement Section for East Jakarta Building Control Sub-Department, Ebby Priyanta, admitted did not know about the BTS tower construction. But, he promised would immediately check it to the field.

“If (the tower construction) violated (the rules), we’ll certainly take action against it. We would probably lower it down if proven did not have IMB,” he asserted.
