Ahok: I Don't Want to Be Controlled by DPRD!

Jakarta Vice Governor, Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama had officially sent a resignation letter to the Gerindra's Executive Board (DPP) yesterday or Wednesday (9/10). Besides that, he also sent a party id card bearing eagle logo.

Basuki's attitude is no longer in line with Gerindra because the party supports the draft law ratification that will regulate the regional head election, such as governor, mayor, and regent through Legislative Council (DPRD).

"If our accountability relies on DPRD, I have certainly been dismissed. And if I was chosen again as governor in 2017, I don't want to be their slave. For me, they are just focusing on monitoring, budget, and legislation, but cannot control me. I can only be controlled by the people," he asserted, at City Hall, Wednesday (9/10).

Despite he had not joined in Gerindra anymore, he was not worried at all programs of Jakarta Provincial Government that will be hampered. This is because he assessed there are many DPRD members who have a conscience, thus it does not disturb the regional heads who work for the people. "Just pray. Do you think all DPRD members are bad? Not really. They have a conscience," he stated.

He disclosed, similar thing was happened when he became Regent of East Belitung who must face the Crescent Star Party (PBB), which had 55 percent of vote. But governance in the East Belitung can work well, because many DPRD members still have a conscience.

He added that such matter would be an interesting political spectacle in the next three years. Because for the first time there is regional head does not incorporated in the political party. "This is an interesting spectacle in Indonesia, if I were a governor through DPRD. Before regional head taken over into slaves, controlled by political parties," he sneered.

He also challenged the council members not to receive bribes, obey on constitution instead of constituent and dare not die thus Jakarta could be a city that is parallel to big cities in the world. "If you agree with me, you do not need to fuss with me. I don't afraid," he asserted.
