I Want to Be Involved in Vice Governor Election, Ahok Says

Basuki 'Ahok' T Purnama can be ascertained to serve as Jakarta Governor that will be left by Joko 'Jokowi' Widodo in the near future. This means the previous position as Jakarta Vice Governor will soon be empty.

Thus conflict can be avoided. Then there would no pair but only one (governor). Thus whoever is elected has the right to choose their own vice

The man who popularly called as Ahok hoped he could be involved in the upcoming Vice Governor Election. Even he also wanted to lobbying bearer party, the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (PDI-P) and Gerindra, prior to the submission of a letter sent to the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD). 

According to him, he has the right to give advice and input before the proposal is sent to the DPRD. "At least, there is a negotiation when the parties send the letter (vice governor's proposal) to DPRD," he stated at City Hall, Tuesday (8/26).

Vice Governor Election willl Be Discussed After DPRD Formation

Nevertheless, he acknowledged that did not know how much the input letter will influence the vice governor election. At this time, the DPR Commission II is still debating a bill on the General Election. In the bill, vice governor election lies in local head.

"Thus conflict can be avoided. Then there would no pair but only one (governor). Thus whoever is elected has the right to choose their own vice," he asserted.

Unfortunately, the bill may not be implemented this year, due to it is still being discussed."Probably, it can be implemented during the next General Election period 2017-2022," he explained.

Basuki does not protest if there have been jockeying for position of Jakarta Vice Governor. This is because its decision lies in the DPRD entirely.

"As many as 106 council members have to vote. If you want, PDI-P has Mr. Boy Sadikin, Mr. Djarot, Mr. Bambang DH, and Rieke Pitaloka," he uttered.
