Menteng Sub-district Environmental Care Community Forum (Formapel), Central Jakarta will develop maggot cultivation on Jalan Gondangdia Kecil, RW 05, Cikini Urban Village.

Menteng Formapel Leader, Hendra Kurniawan stated, maggot cultivation is needed to handle waste early at RW 05, Cikini Urban Village.
"In here, organic waste can be decomposed by maggot. Thus amount of waste transported to Bantar Gebang could be reduced," he said, Wednesday (11/20).

"We will use nine boxes with size 80cm x 3m as the place to cultivate the maggot," he informed.
According to him, one box can produce around 30 kilograms of maggot. It is estimated those nine boxes to reduce around 600 kilograms of organic waste per day.
"Our target is to start this cultivation in early December 2019. We need to train the locals first," he asserted.
Meanwhile, Menteng Environment (LH) Unit Head, Sutadi explained, his side fully supports maggot cultivation as a solution to handle organic waste since early stage.
"Surely we support this positive activity. Moreover, this cultivation is done in huge scale," he mentioned.
He stated that Menteng LH Unit is ready to succeed the maggot cultivation. Not only in giving training and mentoring, but also in selling maggot.
"We want it to give multiplier effect. Thus it is not only reducing waste volume, but also increasing local's economy," he said.
