Sex Works Activity Around Cakung River will Be Controlled Soon

In the near future, North Jakarta Social Sub-Departments will hold a raid against sex workers in the area of Cakung Drain River, Cilincing, North Jakarta. This is because its existence has disturbed citizen activities.

Based on the data of North Jakarta Social Sub-Department, in Cakung Drain River, as many as 39 illegal cafe buildings occupied by 300 sex workers are rampant from Cilincing Bridge until Cakung Drain River. They usually operate since afternoon until morning.

"The existence of sex workers is very disturbing. We also received a report that many of them are still children," said Head of North Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Ika Lestari Adji, Sunday (9/21).

In the raid, Ika stated, her sub-department will involve officers of police, army, Transportation Sub-Department, urban village, and sub-district. "Prior to raid, we will firstly do socialization. If they (sex workers) ignore it, we will act decisively," she asserted.

Head of Service and Social Rehabilitation Section, North Jakarta Social Sub-Department, Israk added those illegal cafes must be demolished in order to smoothen the raid against sex workers. But he must hold coordination beforehand because of the buildings stood atop on the land belongs to the Ciliwung-Cisadane Flood Control Office (BBWSCC).

"We have to coordinate with BBWSCC. While for raid schedule, is still secret. Certainly, we will do it after socialization," he stated.
