Wayang Potehi Festival at Thamrin 10 on Sunday, It's Free!

We also have a bakmi festival and a barongsai festival

To enliven imlek (Chinese New Year) that falls on Saturday (1/25), the Chinese puppet show "Wayang Potehi" will be held at Thamrin 10 Food and Creative Park, Jalan MH Thamrin, Central Jakarta.

Perumda Pasar Jaya President Director Arief Nasrudin said this art is from ethnic Chinese migrants to various regions of the archipelago in the past.

He explained Potehi comes from the word "pou" which means cloth, "te" means bag, and "hi" is wayang. Literally, it means puppets in the form of bags made of cloth.

"This puppet is played using five fingers. Three middle fingers control the head. While the thumb and pinkie control the puppet's hand," he expressed, Thursday (1/23).

It will be held on January 20 at around 7 PM. This is free of charge.

“We also have a bakmi festival and a barongsai festival,” he stated.
