Thousand Islands Continues to Intensify Plastic Waste Handling

The Thousand Islands Regency administration held a Focus Group Discussion (FGD) on reducing and handling plastic waste in the Save Our Ocean and Small Island (SOSIS) program, on Thursday (2/6). It was at Mitra Praja's office, Sunter, North Jakarta.

Thousand Islands Economic and Development Assistant Iwan P. Samosir disclosed that it acted to make a solution in overcoming the problem of waste in Thousand Islands that is in accordance with the duties and integration.

"Our hope is all available resources can be optimized in handling waste according to their duties and authorities," he expressed.

At the same time, Divers Clean Action Executive Director Swietenia Puspa Lestari added that SOSIS program is to tackle and support a solid waste management system based on community participation.

With the big aim is to increase the Thousand Islands people's awareness to conduct Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3R), to reduce and overcome the main waste namely plastic waste.

"It could also be through increasing public education to sort waste from its source which is supported by monitoring by government agencies such as Jumantik or dasa wisma," he stated.
