Bicycle Lane Installation Increases Number of Cyclist in Jakarta

Number of people who use bicycle in Jakarta started to increase since Jakarta Government provided 63 kilometers bicycle lane in 17 roads. Jakarta Transportation Department (Dishub) informed, until now it has increased by 500 percent.

In the future, Jakarta Government plans to add more bicycle lanes massively

Jakarta Dishub Head, Syafrin Liputo considered, bicycle lane development is effective to encourage people to use bicycle as their transport.

Kodam Jaya and Polda Metro Jaya Support City in Providing Bicycle Lanes

"After bicycle lane was made, we saw a significant increase on demand," he stated, Friday (2/7).

Based on Polda Metro Jaya's data, he continued, number of traffic accident involving cyclists is also declined by around 13 percent since we install bicycle lane with road markings.

"It is an outstanding achievement. In the future, Jakarta Government plans to add more bicycle lanes massively. Because it not only able to decrease cyclist accident rates,  but also encourage people to start cycling for their mobility," he explained.

In the first phase, Jakarta Government installed bicycle lanes with route of Jalan Medan Merdeka Selatan-Jalan MH Thamrin-Jalan Imam Bonjol-Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro-Jalan Proklamasi-Jalan Pramuka-Jalan Pemuda.

Then, route for the second phase is on Jalan Jenderal Sudirman-Jalan Sisingamangaraja-Jalan Panglima Polim-Jalan RS Fatmawati. While for the third phase, route installed on Jalan Tomang Raya-Jalan Cideng Timur-Jalan Kebon Sirih-Jalan Matraman Raya-Jalan Jatinegara Barat-Jalan Jatinegara Timur.
