The Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture and Food Security (KPKP) Agency is planting 120 yellow kepok banana tree seedlings on a 2,000-square meter wide land belongs to the Seed Development and Plant Protection Center, Cibubur, East Jakarta.

Seed Development and Plant Protection Center Head Ali Nurdin said kepok banana was chosen, as many people like it, moreover its yellow and legit texture is trending and affordable price compared to other banana types.

"The banana will be certified by the Center for Promotion and Agricultural Products Certification Technical Management Unit (UPT), thus can be sold at supermarket," he expressed.

He explains, the banana will later become the parent for tissue culture. Each tree will produce five to seven buds. One of them can produce 1,000 trees in one year that is propagated by means of tissue culture, thus the first tree seedlings planted can produce 5,000 to 7,000 trees.

This tissue culture technique has advantages for producing large quantities and harvest simultaneously, as well as the fruiting period is faster, around nine months.

Lastly, to anticipate plant bacteria, the land must have trichoderma fertilizer produced from biological agents.
