Jakarta Governor Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo inaugurates natural gas utilization in Marunda Flat, North Jakarta, Thursday (9/25). Now, Marunda Flat inhabitants can cook food without having to buy liquefied petroleum gas (elpiji) canister because the flat has been powered with natural gas from the state gas company PT Perusahaan Gas Negara (PGN).
Each household could save up to Rp 20,000-Rp 30,000 per month. If calculated for a year, that’s quite a lot. Besides, we don’t need to import natural gas. It is pure from our country
For start, 500 units in Marunda Flat Cluster A have been installed with natural gas installation and 280 of them can already enjoy the facility. As for the remaining 200 units in Cluster B, gas facility will be installed soon. Later, a total of 700 units will be powered with gas.
Head of Jakarta Public Housing and Government’s Buildings Department, Yonathan Pasodung, informed that besides Marunda Flat, other flats that will also be powered with gas are Tipar Cakung Flat (1,000 units), Flamboyan Flat (560 units), Sukapura Flat (100 units), Tebet Harum Flat (320 units), and Tebet Berlian Flat (120 units).
Tipar Cakung Flat to Be Powered with Gas“By using gas from PGN, the residents would save about 40 percent (of their spending) compared using elpiji gas,” he told.
According to PT PGN President Director, Hendi Prio Santoso, using natural gas is a lot safer than using elpiji gas. This is because the density of natural gas is lighter than air. So, if leak happened, natural gas will evaporate. Moreover, the price of natural gas is also cheaper than elpiji gas canister. For one cubic meter natural gas, PGN priced it for Rp 2,600.
“Household consumption is usually only 10 cubic meters per month. So, in a month it only costs Rp 26,000. This is cheaper than buying elpiji gas canister,” he uttered.
Meanwhile, Jokowi said that Jakarta Provincial Government will encourage the use of natural gas for household purposes.
“Each household could save up to Rp 20,000-Rp 30,000 per month. If calculated for a year, that’s quite a lot. Besides, we don’t need to import natural gas. It is pure from our country,” he stated.
