Post Friday Riot, City Hall and City Council's Security Tightened

The security of City Hall and City Council Building is tightened after chaos rally by Islam Defenders Front (FPI) last week. Hundreds of police personnel and water canon prepared around the building.

Jakarta Regional Secretary, Saefullah, said he gives trust to City Police to secure the building since the process of Basuki Tjahaja Purnama's ratification as Jakarta Governor will reap protest.
"It's their responsibility to guard the building," said Saefullah, Monday (10/6).
FPI's Demonstration Injured Dozens of PolicemenAccording to Saefullah, the ratification of Basuki T. Purnama as Jakarta Governor is already ruled in Law No. 32/2004 about Regional Government. The law mentioned that the resign governor is automatically replaced by the vice.
"I told the citizens that this process is a constitutional mandate. We respect Bhinneka Tunggal Ika and obey Pancasila. So there is no discrimination. The important thing is Basuki has willing to improve Jakarta better," Saefullah explained.
As reported before, around 200 FPI members held rally in front of City Council Building, Jalan Kebon Sirih, Central Jakarta, Friday (10/3). The rally was ended in chaos. The mass threw the building with rocks and animal dirt.
There were 16 police personnel wounded. Head of Gambir Sector Police, AKBP Putu Putra Sadana, was also a victim of this tragedy.
City Police Chief Insp. Gen. Unggung Cahyono has picked up the rally's coordinator to FPI's base in Petamburan. Police has arrested 21 FPI's member as the suspect, and they will be charged with Article 214 verse 1 and 2 of the Criminal Law about action against officers and Article 170 verse 1 and 2 KUHP about mass destruction, and/or Article 160 KUHP about provocation and Article 406 KUHP juncto Article 55 KUHP. They could face five years in prison.
Police are still hunting for a senior FPI, namely Habib NB. Jakarta Police has now formed three teams to hunt FPI officials allegedly involved in the action. Some of suspects and fugitives are residents outside of Jakarta.
